I think the standards exist for people who are learning language but that at some point we advance beyond that to develop our language to serve our own conceptualizations, perspectives and cognitive functions.  In other words, we find ourselves in  situations in which the standard of communication does not serve our desired effect. In this situation, the standard can therefore be a template to make sense of the nonstandard. Okay, its getting late and I need to stop. Are we saying the same thing?
