at the center of the field of linguistics lies this word, which, when looked at with all the underlying meanings, connotations, and purposes of usage that it bears, can be loosely referred to as ‘loaded.’ unraveling its surrounding ideological concerns is the primary focus of this writing space. the value of this effort lies in furthering my and others’ understanding of one of humanity’s most fascinating and intricate faculties.

    A quote to consider, from Bakhtin:
    “Still current in linguistics are such fictions as the “listener” and “understander” (partners of the “speaker”), the “unified speech flow,” and so on. These fictions produce a completely distorted idea of the complex and multifaceted process of active speech communication. . . . The fact is that when the listener perceives and understands the meaning (the language meaning) of speech, he simultaneously takes as active, responsive attitude toward it.” (The Problem of Speech Genres, p. 68)
